The Kalandraka edition, with illustrations by Óscar Villán, offers an excellent translation into Galician that preserves the playful essence of the original. An invitation to pursue impossible dreams with a smile.

What is it about?

First published in 1876, "The Hunting of the Snark" is a narrative poem that follows an unlikely crew—formed by a Bellman, a Banker, a Barber, and other eccentric characters—on an equally unlikely mission: to find the elusive Snark. The work is a display of absurd humor and wordplay, where Carroll creates invented terms and chaotic situations that mix the epic with the delirious. The carefully crafted Galician translation maintains the linguistic richness and rhythm of the original, while Óscar Villán's illustrations provide a visual layer that enhances the dreamlike and nonsensical nature of the story.

Main themes

Nonsense and the absurd as a form of literary and humorous exploration.

The pursuit of the impossible as a metaphor for perseverance and imagination.

The invention of language and experimentation with words.

The mixture of the epic with the mundane and the chaotic.

The importance of dreams and the transcendence of pursuing them.

Who is it recommended for?

This book is aimed at young and adult readers interested in experimental poetry, intelligent humor, and fantasy literature.
